To Look or Not to Look? | Omaha Wedding Photography

For many traditional couples the idea of a groom seeing his soon-to-be bride in her wedding dress before she walks down the aisle is completely out of the question.  The tradition actually comes from way back in the day when marriages were arranged and couples weren’t even allowed to know each other let alone SEE each other before the ceremony (can you imagine?!).   Marriages were more of a business transaction and fathers would actually “give the bride away”, i.e. walk them down the aisle, to finalize the deal.

Well, thank goodness times have changed!  Nowadays, brides and grooms keep this same tradition only to preserve the anticipation and excitement of seeing their significant other on their big day. And then we have non-traditional couples that are opting to do a “first look” before the ceremony.  To these couples, setting aside a few moments to be with each other allows them to slow down and take it all in before the vows.  These couples love the idea that the initial reaction and the tears and excitement that accompany a “first look” can be shared privately in an intimate setting rather than in front of hundreds of guest.

At Love & Light Productions, we’ve done many weddings both ways.  But, until recently, we had never had a couple that wanted to do a “first no-look”!  We were super happy when Elena & Kyle brought up the idea!  Watching these two made our hearts melt because we could instantly see their love for each other as they held hands around a doorway at The Magnolia Hotel in downtown Omaha.  We get goosebumps even thinking about it!

As wedding photographers, we love the idea of being able to capture these moments on the wedding day because it is such a beautiful experience filled with so many wonderful emotions.  After every wedding, the warm and fuzzies stay with us for days!  We are forever grateful to our ever-growing family of brides and grooms that we get the opportunity to work with 🙂
